Inspired by the beginning of one of the most dominant eras in Scottish football history, the Rangers ’88 design reinterprets the unmistakable aesthetics of late-80s Ibrox through clean geometric form.
This was Rangers at the start of a transformation. Graeme Souness rebuilding the club, European nights at Ibrox and the emergence of the bold, graphic football aesthetics that would come to define the late 1980s. Shadow patterns, McEwan’s sponsorship and the deep royal blue palette combined to create one of the most iconic visual identities in British football.
The 1988–89 season would become the first chapter in Rangers’ famous run of nine consecutive league titles. Players like Ally McCoist, Richard Gough and Terry Butcher helped establish a side that felt powerful both on the pitch and visually. Sharp tailoring, bold textures and unmistakable Ibrox atmosphere.
This piece strips those visual elements back into a minimal composition inspired by analogue football culture, Scottish football and the raw beauty of late 80s sportswear design.
