Inspired by the golden era of early 70s Olympique de Marseille, this design reinterprets one of French football’s most timeless visual identities through clean geometric form.
This was Marseille before modern football; sun-bleached concrete terraces, cigarette smoke drifting through the Vélodrome and the unmistakable simplicity of this classic design. White shirts, minimal detailing and Mediterranean football culture at its purest.
The 1971 era remains iconic in Marseille history. OM would go on to win the French title in 1970–71 and establish themselves as one of the defining clubs of French football during the decade. The clean all white aesthetic of the period became inseparable from the identity of the city and still feels effortlessly elegant more than fifty years later.
This piece strips those visual elements back into a minimal composition inspired by analogue football culture, classic French sportswear and the atmosphere of the old Vélodrome under bright blue skies.
